About

Me in my apartment. Taken May 2010.

Me smiling inanely at my webcam.

I am Anthony Litton, and this is my blog. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I am originally from Dublin, Ireland. I attended the National Film School of Ireland and, after graduating in 1997, I worked as a freelance sound editor (and occasional script reader) in the Irish film industry. I won a Green Card in the DV Lottery and moved to New York in 2003.

I scrounged around for a while, doing various jobs and not making ends meet, until I landed on my feet with a job as a freelance dialogue editor in Rockstar Games. After a year of on and off work, I was hired full time. The first game I worked on was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and I was involved in every Rockstar release from then up to and including Red Dead Redemption (well, ok, I didn’t do much on Chinatown Wars or Beaterator). Over the years I moved from being a sound editor to a more manager-y role, including writing and directing a lot of background dialogue.

The day after the release of Red Dead Redemption, I quit. I am very proud of all the work I did on those games (particularly on RDR – that game is amazing!) but it is time to move on. I’m not sure yet what I will move on to, but that’s just a detail!

This is take actually 2 of my blog. I originally started blogging in 2003. My purpose then was to document my emigration to the US. I chronicled my attempts to get work, meet people and generally make a life for myself in New York. By 2007 I was pretty settled – I had my full time job (that I couldn’t write about!), I was in negotiations to buy an apartment in Brooklyn and I had solid group of friends, and a girlfriend (about whom I never blogged!).

In short, I ran out of stuff to write about, and eventually stopped trying. The entry on May 13th, 2007 turned out to be my last, until now. You can check out my account of my early days in NYC by clicking the Legacy Blog link on the right.

So what will I write about now? Well, I anticipate my days will once again be filled with stuff that is not covered by a Non Disclosure Agreement, so there’s that! I loved my job at Rockstar (most of the time) but I suspect that I will always be a freelancer at heart. I have missed doing dumb projects just for fun in my spare time, and what is unemployment but spare time? I will post about my dumb projects as they come up, and other stuff as it occurs to me.

Onwards and upwards!

Anthony
